Suneel reflects on his journey with a deep sense of purpose and fulfilment. Suneel holds a Postgraduate Degree in Social Work with a specialization in Criminology and Correctional Administration from Jamia Millia Islamia, which laid the foundation for his extensive work in rehabilitation and correctional facilities. In 1987, he joined the Navjyoti Delhi Police Foundation for Correction, De-addiction, and Rehabilitation as the Founding Director, where he served for twelve years. His pioneering work in using peer counselors for the rehabilitation of addicts and individuals living with HIV/AIDS established a new standard in the treatment of vulnerable populations. His initiatives, supported by UNODC, emphasized the importance of holistic rehabilitation and peer-based models, influencing addiction treatment programs nationwide. Currently, Suneel is the Founding Chairperson of Nada India, a volunteer-driven organization advocating for balanced, healthy public policies aimed at preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs), promoting child-friendly and gender-sensitive environments, and encouraging drug- and tobacco-free lifestyles. His leadership at Nada India has led to critical advocacy efforts that align with global health priorities. Suneel's role as a member of the steering group for the Community of Practice (CoP) on NCDs and the Commercial Determinants of Health (CDoH) under the World Health Organization Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs (WHO GCM/NCD) reflects his commitment to global health advocacy. Suneel’s work has earned him numerous accolades, including the NADA International Award for his vision and leadership in 2001, as well as the prestigious Karmaveer Chakra Award and REX Karmaveer Global Fellowship instituted by the United Nations and iCONGO. He has also been recognized twice with the Rotary Vocational Service Award by Rotary International in Delhi for his outstanding contributions to public service Reflecting on his career, Suneel shares, “I have always pushed my limits, perhaps because I love what I do.
